Rochelle Stevenson is completing her PhD in Sociology at the. Coming from an academic background in criminology (BA (Hons) Simon Fraser University, MA University of Ottawa), the majority of her research has been focused on cruelty to animals, ranging from legislative reform attempts to its connection with intimate partner violence. Her PhD research is looking at the inclusion of companion animals in violent intimate relationships through the perspective of the male abusive partner.

Broader research interests include the human-animal relationship, animal welfare/rights, and the particularities of the inclusion/exclusion of animals in the social sphere.
